The Curiosity plan is free: enough to try it on a small event, no card required. After that, One-shot is a single payment for one event, and Peace of Mind covers the whole year — at a fixed price, however many volunteers you have. See the full pricing.
Yes, at any time and on every plan, including the free one. You place, move or remove a volunteer without going through them — to fill an empty slot the night before, or hold a spot for someone who asked you in person. Your volunteers sign up on their own, but the board keeps control. Assignment mode, a module dedicated to reassignment when there are a lot of people to move, comes with the One-shot plan upwards.

The two are complementary. HelloAsso handles the money: ticketing, memberships, donations. APEasy organises the hands: who runs which role, at what time, with how many places. The two can run side by side on the same day — one for the till, the other for the schedule.
Fair question, and the answer is one word: export. Your events and sign-up lists can be downloaded at any time, in a format any spreadsheet can read. Nothing is locked in, and you would be told well in advance. It is also why the service is paid rather than ad-funded: a modest but real subscription is what makes it last.
